Twin Wire Arc Spray (TWAS) is a non-invasive process of applying material to drill pipe when welding is not an option. Our process and application has been proven through various field tests to extend the life of the drill pipe and improve drilling performance when drilling horizontal sections
TWAS (Twin Arc Spray) works by feeding two wires with opposite electrical charges into a gun where they cross. This initiates an electrical arc. As the metal is melted, clean compressed air is channeled thus atomizing and propelling the semi molten metal droplets onto a clean rough substrate. Immediately after the droplets of metal hit they cool and lock into one another.
This patented alloy allows us to build thick deposits (.01”- 0.125”) onto the drill pipe. The deposit is achieved at low temperatures > 350F. It is wear resistant and induces less friction than steel to steel.
White Horse Technology has been applying HH-1 to drill pipe successfully over the past few years. A drill pipe joint with HH-1 is capable of drilling up to 380,000ft of lateral sections in abrasive formation and DBR is nonexistent.
